A downloadable game

This is currently the page for a very early version of the game I'm working on, The Wrong Dungeon. I first started it on about October 17th, but I've used a lot of code and assets from my previous projects for it so far. I'm mostly using this page right now as a way of recording my progress and mapping out what I want to accomplish with the game.

Right now this is the plan for the project:

-Several playable classes, maybe over a dozen depending on how easy they are to add/how complex I want them to be- basically if classes have lots of abilities, equipment, options etc I won't have as many. Classes will probably get unlocked in a typical sort of roguelike way; i.e. completing challenges or getting to a certain point in a run.

-The game will progress through various floors in a roguelike sort of fashion, I'm not 100% sure what the trigger to progress will be or if it'll be the same every time. Every floor enemies will get slightly stronger, but you'll also have access to plenty of powerups to get stronger yourself. There'll be a boss floor every 10, and after that the dungeon type will switch; so it'll be a different set of tiles/props for the next 10. I'm hoping to implement an endless mode as well, or have the game just be endless by default by looping you after you've beat all the stages.

-I'm hoping to add some kind of equipment and other unlockables to make it so you can customize your character even further before each run.

Hopefully I'll have something up and playable (and probably a short video) sometime in the next couple weeks, but I have a lot left to do before that point, like adding in a few more classes and enemies, sound, and coming up with some sort of procedural generation for the rooms (if that even ends up working, otherwise it'll just be a large pool of premade rooms you're randomly sent too each time). Some of the assets, especially the health bars and player UI will get changed; those are just ones I've recolored from old projects.

The main game that continues to give me motivation to work on this, and one that I've taken a lot of inspiration from is Halls of Torment. The slash projectile is one I actually made myself (it'll probably get changed eventually lol) and I basically just tried copying it from HOT. This game won't be a bullet heaven game as much as a typical top-down action RPG like Cross Code or something similar, though.

Right now the color palette I'm using is https://lospec.com/palette-list/dynasty38, and the main sprites I'm using for characters & enemies are done by https://lyaseek.itch.io/, so I have a huge array of stuff to choose from since they all work pretty well with the palette. They're sort of stand-ins, but might end up being final depending on how far this game makes it. Ultimately, I'd like to have 4 or 8 directional characters and enemies since that'd really help make it feel more professional, but that'd probably require a lot of commissioning artists.

Thanks for checking this out if you did!

Another small update 10/27/25: Things are still going well! Basically all the props, at least the ones I'm using for the first actual dungeon level, and right now I'm making up some prop sets to hopefully start procedurally generating (if you can even call random level backgrounds & prop sets that lmao) some levels!
